Conscious Sedation
Anxieties surrounding dental procedures are common, but they should not prevent anyone from seeking treatment. People are more aware than ever of the need for good dental health and oral hygiene. Periodontal disease is now linked to diseases of other parts of the body and is known to affect your overall health.
Our goal is to assist you in making good decisions about your treatment while insuring your comfort and confidence in the overall experience.
In addition to local anesthesia (numbing of the area to be treated), Dr. Heaton offers alternative methods called conscious sedation. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available at no extra charge. Medication (to be taken prior to your treatment appointment) can also be prescribed to relax you. In some cases, intravenous (IV) sedation is offered. Administered by an Anesthesiologist, the patient is in a controlled and constantly-monitored semi-conscious state. As with all other treatment, this is administered in our office. IV sedation is not the same as general anesthesia and does not carry the risks associated with general anesthesia.
These options have eased the minds of many of our patients and opened the door for treatment they might have otherwise avoided.
We want to make your experience as comfortable as possible!
